Secondary Curriculum – French
knowledge is structured in consciousness
IN THIS SECTION
My name is Lisa Walters and I teach French to years 7, 8 and 9. I am also the SENCO and the Deputy Head of the Secondary phase.
I love teaching languages to the pupils. We use lots of games and activities, watch short film clips and listen to music in order to help pupils get used to hearing and speaking French. We also use an app called Duolingo which is multi-sensory and helps improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Last year 50 pupils from the secondary phase went on a fabulous trip to Normandy, France. We all stayed in a chateau and had a wonderful time, We visited Mont St Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry and Bayeux Cathedral. We also took part in lots of activities in the grounds of the chateau including circus skills, photography, aeroball and the muddiest assault course you’ve ever seen! Everything was done in French which improved the pupil’s language skills enormously. The trip will be running every alternate year so everyone will have a couple of opportunities to go throughout their time in the secondary phase.
This school is a very special place to be and it is where I have chosen to send my own children. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. If your children are not already at the school, please come and take a look around and see what a wonderful place it is to be.
