Complete knowledge
Consciousness-based Education recognises that the educational process has a three – fold structure involving:
• the knower (the student);
• the known (the curriculum that the student studies); and
• the processes of knowing (connecting the knower with the known)All three aspects of education must be fully developed in order for knowledge to be complete, and for life to be lived in completeness.The educational process is structured on the fundamental and natural relationship between the awareness of the knower and a specific object of knowledge. Students come to feel at home with all the different subjects they study because they are all understood as expressions of orderly growth, which they can find in their own lives. Through regular practice of Transcendental Meditation, the basis of complete knowledge becomes lively in life. Thought and action become spontaneously evolutionary, creativity blossoms, self-sufficiency grows, and the ability for great accomplishment becomes a reality.

Developing the knower
Traditionally, education has focused primarily on what the students study — the objective aspect of knowledge, the known. Little attention has been given to developing the abilities of the student to learn and the teacher to teach. Education has lacked a systematic means of developing the full value of the knower and the processes of knowing, making the acquisition of complete knowledge impossible.The quality of the students’ awareness — their intelligence, creativity, and receptivity to knowledge; their sense of self and confidence in their capabilities; their ability to comprehend both broadly and deeply — is fundamental to successful educational outcomes. Truly successful education cannot lie solely in what the students learn or in what they are taught. Whereas other methods and programmes depend for their effectiveness on whatever receptivity, intelligence and creativity the students may already have, this system of education directly develops these characteristics in all the students irrespective of their background, attitudes, gender, or abilities.This understanding reflects a fundamental concept of Consciousness-based Education – ‘Knowledge is Structured in Consciousness’ – this is the core of the educational philosophy of the Maharishi Free School. By developing the full potential of each student – their ability to know and understand, analyse and synthesise – Consciousness-based Education can bring success to any educational endeavour. With the knowledge and experience of their potential lively in the student’s awareness, the highest ideals of education can be realised by every student.

Scientific Research
Greater physiological and psychological balance is available to everyone in the experience of Restful Alertness, their most settled state of mind; Restful Alertness, is easily and naturally experienced through Transcendental Meditation. Regular alternation of meditation and activity develops the whole brain physiology, making fulfillment the normal experience of daily life. Over 300 research studies conducted at more than 100 universities and research institutions in over 20 countries and published in more than 200 peer-reviewed journals have documented the wide-ranging academic, physiological, psychological, and sociological benefits resulting from regular practice of Transcendental Meditation.

Applying the processes of knowing
The pupil is able to move effortlessly, with complete flexibility and intelligence between
their experience of Restful Alertness and the superficial values of knowledge in any field. This integrates their appreciation of unity in the midst of diversity and develops complete knowledge. By linking this general process of gaining complete knowledge with the interdisciplinary themes; the knower; the known; the processes of knowing; and it’s aspects, the study of any discipline is intimately related to orderly growth in the pupil’s own life. This fulfills the ideal of education, which is to unfold complete knowledge for every student so that nothing remains hidden from view.
