Sport Premium Funding Report
In 2016-2017 Maharishi School received £8510.00 Primary Sport Premium Funding in addition to the school’s standard GAG funding.’
This funding is made to benefit primary school’s sport/PE provision for Years 1 to 6.
Unlike many schools, Maharishi School does not have its own gym or sports field, however, we do benefit from a purpose built, semi–enclosed 18m x 10m Games Space with Ball Hoops and Goal Ends that where the children enjoy weekly P.E lessons in the Spring and Summer months.
In the colder months, the children are taken to other local facilities for P.E. lessons. This incurs both premises hire and transport costs. Transport comprises a combination of coach hire and the school’s own minibus.
The school has its own PE equipment which is taken to the lessons as necessary. Some of this equipment is taken from the sports equipment budget (below) and some from individual teacher’s class budgets or the primary deputy head’s budget, with no set expenditure.
Years 3 – 6 participate in swimming lessons provided by Shares, the local cluster group of which the school is a member. Each Class is currently provided with 1 term’s swimming instruction. Of our Year 6 cohort:
- 89% can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- 89% can use a range of strokes effectively
- 100% performed safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
The School ensures that there is continuity from year to year in our sport provision in order to achieve sustainable improvement. For 2016-2017 the school has spent the following for Years 1 – 6 PE:
Venue Hire: £2,764.51 (includes swimming service)
Transport to Venues: £8536.00 (excludes cost of school minibus)
Sport Equipment: £211.56 (see above)
Total: £11512.07 (£3002.07 over the sports premium)
