SHARES Pupil Parliament

A number of schools from the SHARES Skelmersdale & Up Holland Pupil Parliament have taken part in a pupil parliament session at West Lancashire Borough Council’s Derby Street offices. Our Year 6 school councillors, Sara & Will represented Maharishi School.
The event on Monday, October 2 was opened with the Mayor of West Lancashire, Councillor Neil Furey, telling the children about his role as Mayor.
The children then went on to vote for a Prime Minister for their Pupil Parliament. Candidates stood up and gave a speech about why they should be elected as the Prime Minister. The children could also decide who they wanted as Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary.
Councillor Furey said: “This was an excellent event and it was great to see the children being so actively involved in an event about democracy.”
